Hiking to the Apennine Lakes

From the Ovovia summit station, after a few minutes walk along route CAI 00 you will reach route CAI 3. Turning left onto this route is an optional detour to the Black Lake (Lago Nero - 1730m) which can be reached in about 15 minutes.

Turning right onto CAI 3 instead, in about 10-20 minutes you will reach Plate Lake (Lago Piatto - 1823 m) at the head of the Valley of Light (Val di Luce). Then, after crossing Hannibal's Pass (Passo di Annibale - 1798m) still on route CAI 3, you will descend to the Mouth of Giovo (Foce a Giovo - 1674m).

At this point, re-joining route CAI 00 then leads up to the summit of Mount Rondinaio (Monte Rondinaio - 1963m) before descending via route CAI 7 to the glacial Lake Baccio (Lago Baccio - 1554 m) and Saint Lake (Lago Santo - 1501 m).

Taking route CAI 5 from the lake takes you back to the Mouth of Giovo (Foce a Giovo - 1674m) and turning off halfway up the hill to the head of the Tagliole valley onto route CAI 3 will return you to the starting point.
